– Q & A CORNER –

HOW MUCH DOES A WEDDING CAKE COST?

Wedding cakes are generally priced per serving, with the industry standard being 4″ x 2″ x 1″ for one serving. Because cakes are built to be at least 4 inches tall, much taller than your “normal” homemade cake, you can cut many slices from each tier!

The question of how much a cake costs boils down to ingredients and design. A buttercream-covered cake costs less than a fondant cake. A multi-tiered cake costs more per serving than one that doesn’t need extra support.

In general, extra flavors, ganache, or curd incur an additional cost. That said, I think it is important to offer your guests different flavors for different palettes; therefore, cake orders with at least 70 servings automatically include the option of two flavor combinations with no extra charge.

A simple one-tier cake starts at $5.75 a serving, with a 2-tier cake starting at $6.25, 3-tier at $6.50, and 4-tier at $6.75. The amount of decoration, extra flavors, and delivery/setup fee will determine the final cost. Please inquire for cupcake and mini cupcake pricing.

Because it is very useful to discuss cake size and design ideas first, I prefer to have a video consultation before providing a quote.

HOW MUCH DOES A CELEBRATION CAKE COST?

All cakes, unless the design dictates otherwise, are built with 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling per tier. Because cakes are built to be at least 4 inches tall, much taller than your “normal” homemade cake, you can cut many slices from each tier! For example, a 6″ round cake has 12 servings and an 8″ round has 24.

A Fancy Pants Cake celebration cake (birthday, baby shower, etc.) tends to include enough personalized decoration that the price is often at least $6 a serving. Final price is determined by size, number of tiers, decoration, and delivery fee (if needed).

Please inquire for cupcake or mini cupcake pricing.

There is a $100 minimum for all orders.

WHAT ARE YOUR FLAVORS?

Check out the flavors page.

DO YOU OFFER TASTINGS?

I offer tastings for my wedding clients who are expected to have at least a $350 order, not including the delivery fee. Tastings may be picked up in Bennington or mailed overnight. Couples choose 3 flavor combinations for $30 (additional flavors extra), and I provide 8 mini cupcakes of each flavor and separate buttercreams/fillings to mix and match and delight your taste buds. You get plenty to share!

DO YOU OFFER CUPCAKES?

Yes, I offer mini cupcakes and normal sized cupcakes, with the $100 minimum order still applying. Inquire about pricing.

DO YOU MAKE OTHER DESSERTS?

I only make cakes and cupcakes.

If you’re looking for variety, don’t discount having “just” cake until you’ve tried my flavors!

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO ORDER?

In short, I appreciate as much advance notice as possible. Because I am a one-woman operation, I can only make a limited number of cakes per week and reserve dates on a first-come, first-served basis. That said, if you need a cake for a last-minute event, contact me and I will let you know if I can accommodate your request. June, September, and October are generally the busiest wedding months and some dates may book a year-plus in advance.

DO YOU HAVE STAND RENTALS?

I have several sturdy stands for rent for smaller cakes up to heavier wedding cakes; check out stands and prices here. I also have an adjustable multi-tiered white stand that can hold over 300 mini cupcakes and a cake up to 10″ wide on top. See the wedding portfolio for photos of this cupcake stand.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD ALLERGIES?

While a cake may not contain nuts, there are nuts in my kitchen and I can not guarantee a nut-free product. In a similar vein, I can make cakes with gluten-free flours, but since I use all-purpose and cake flours in my kitchen I can not guarantee that there won’t be flour dust in the batter. I mention this because people have various tolerances to gluten. If you are very sensitive to gluten, I can not safely accommodate your needs. However, if you have cut gluten out of your diet and are looking for a cake option that is not full of all-purpose flour, let’s talk.

I can also make vegan or dairy-free cakes.

DO YOU DELIVER?

Yes. There is a delivery fee which takes into account time, fuel costs, and any set-up. I generally deliver within 1 1/2 hours of Bennington, though I can go further if necessary.

Payment is accepted through personal check, cash, money order, or credit card.

CAN YOU MAKE A CHARACTER CAKE?

I am sorry, but it is illegal to reproduce and sell any copyrighted logo, character, etc. without permission of the owner. Some owners are happy to give their permission, but others (Disney, for example) are more protective of their characters. Without permission, I can not reproduce that character or logo on the cake.

However, there are ways that we can work with the theme of the party and still obey the law. You are welcome to use your own topper (e.g., a plastic figurine) and the cake can be a scene for the character. Another alternative is to create a cake based around the theme of the party; for example, a multi-tiered cake that matches the colors and dress styles of the Disney Princesses for a princess party. Let’s be creative and think outside the box!
