This was a first - a cake for a client's daughter's school project! She wanted to illustrate the Iditarod Trail in a fun way, so they provided the map and I provided the cake. She added some toothpick city markers later. Vanilla bean funfetti cake with cookies and cream buttercream - I heard the kids loved it!⁠

I heard that the birthday girl’s eyes grew realllllly big when she caught sight of her sport-themed funfetti cupcakes with cookies and cream buttercream. 😁 45 for school, 15 for her team, and a half soccer ball cake for the cousin party! Now that’s one happy gal.

Cake decorating is all about problem solving. And when you're making your nephew a soccer themed cake 5 hours from home, you gotta figure out how to make the goal nets without all your tools. I ended up piping the nets in buttercream, sticking them in the freezer, then peeling them off the wax paper and attaching to a bbq stick base. They started falling apart once warm, but the birthday boy was happy.⁠

Those little fondant soccer balls though... aren't they adorable? They're just tiny bits of fondant rolled together.⁠
